I do my best to practice self-care as often as I can. Especially with everything going on these days, finding time for me is not a luxury, it’s a necessity. One of the main ways I stay calm in the chaos is with facials. Whether they’re done at home or by a professional, they boost my serotonin levels immensely. But I can always use an extra boost. So when Katrina Urton, co-founder of Ceremony Esthetics and Wellness, reached out about her meditative facial experience, I was eager to give it a try.

Urton gave me the lowdown on what a meditative facial is, its benefits, what to expect when receiving one, and allowed me to embrace the experience. Discover why a strong mind-skin connection may be what your beauty routine is missing.

It's about glam time you treated yourself.

What Is a Meditative Facial?

Meditation is something Urton weaves into all of her facial offerings in some capacity, though they often follow a similar cadence.

“Every facial at Ceremony is designed to be a slow, intentional experience that supports both skin health and nervous system regulation,” she shares. “Sessions begin with grounding breathwork, followed by customized skincare and an extended facial massage. They conclude with a guided meditation.”

This pace allows her to work quietly and deliberately, “creating space for clients to fully drop into rest.”

5 Benefits of Receiving a Meditative Facial

1. It Offers Nervous System Regulation

While a traditional facial is still relaxing, it doesn’t provide the nervous system reset that meditation does. By weaving it into her skincare routine, Urton helps clients relax even deeper.

“The guided breathwork, slow touch, and quiet presence help shift the body out of fight-or-flight and into a parasympathetic (rest-and-digest) state. This allows clients to truly relax, often experiencing deeper calm than with a traditional facial.”

2. It Reduces Facial Tension and Stress Holding

We all carry stress, and many of us show it on our faces. With a meditative facial, that can be relieved.

“I spend a lot of time on intentional facial massage, which eases tension in common holding areas like the jaw, brow, neck, and shoulders,” emphasizes Urton. “This not only softens expression lines but also helps relieve emotional stress stored in the body.”

Urton began offering the service due to the constant emphasis on “fixing” ourselves, rather than on how we actually feel.

“Day after day, I worked with women and started noticing something deeper: the way they arrived, how they breathed, how their bodies held stress. Most people came in exhausted and tense. It felt incomplete to simply send them away with another product that promised to solve everything,” she shares.

Meditation has greatly helped Urton slow down and show up more intentionally in her life, which is why she wanted to offer it to her clients.

“I wanted to create an experience where skincare isn’t just about visible results, but about helping people regulate their nervous systems, reconnect with themselves, and leave feeling calmer than when they arrived.”

3. It Improves Skin Health and Glow

Depuffing and lymphatic drainage are at the top of everyone’s feed. Everyone wants a slimmer face, and meditative facials can help.

“By increasing circulation and lymphatic flow, the skin becomes more oxygenated and depuffed, resulting in brighter tone, improved texture, and a natural glow,” explains Urton.

4. It Provides an Emotional Reset & Mental Clarity

For those feeling overwhelmed and burned out, a meditative facial can help ease those feelings.

“The meditative aspect creates space for mental quiet, helping people leave feeling lighter, clearer, and more grounded,” says Urton.

5. It Allows a Deeper Sense of Connection to the Self

A facial focuses on results. You want to see an improvement in your skin immediately. But with a meditative aspect woven in, you can relax and enjoy the experience.

“Beyond visible results, the experience encourages clients to slow down and reconnect with their bodies,” says Urton. “It becomes less about ‘fixing’ the skin and more about honoring it.”

What to Expect When Getting a Meditative Facial

Urton shares that while all facials follow the same structure, no two sessions are exactly the same. She works with her clients to tune into their needs and go from there.

“We begin with grounding breathwork and a brief guided meditation and aromatherapy to help the nervous system shift out of stress mode. From there, I move into a customized skincare treatment: cleansing, exfoliation, extractions when needed, and targeted treatments based on the client’s skin.”

Two components she always includes are a facial massage and LED light therapy

“Facial massage is a central part of every session, using slow, intuitive techniques to release tension in the jaw, neck, shoulders, and face while supporting circulation and lymphatic flow,” she says. “I introduce guided meditation while the client rests under the LED panel. I find that by this part of the facial, people are generally relaxed enough to really be present and receptive.”

Her end goal? “Visible skin results and an internal sense of calm.”

My Meditative Facial Experience

Urton and I began my meditative facial experience by discussing my skincare routine. We talked about the products I use and what I tend to avoid. Then we talked about life, sharing how we stay grounded during this time of immense turmoil. I already felt a sense of relief discussing this with her because, sometimes, it’s nice to know someone else is also going through it.

We started the facial with an examination, where she noted I had “great skin,” a compliment I’m not sure I deserve but will absolutely take. Next, she cleansed my face and applied an oxygenating mask to leave my skin radiant and refreshed.

I then enjoyed an intensive facial and upper body massage that left me feeling deeply relaxed. I carry a ton of tension in my face and shoulders, and I felt it melting away with each massage from Urton.

Being so relaxed, it felt easy to settle into the meditation portion of the facial. As I rested under the red light therapy, I felt myself letting go breath by breath. I didn’t realize how much I had been holding in my body, so it was nice to feel that release.

By the time the experience was over, not only was my skin glowing, but I felt completely serene. I was a new woman with a nervous system that wasn’t going haywire. I almost felt like I had transcended space and time and was no longer on this planet. I can’t imagine not receiving meditation with my facials anymore.

Final Thoughts: Your Skincare Is Missing Meditation

After my meditative facial experience, I felt such a release. I almost cried on my way home because I was that emotional about the ease I was now living in, as opposed to when I walked in feeling like a ball of nerves and stress. The feeling lasted for a week, which led me to hone my own meditative practices. I also started listening to guided meditations while doing my skincare routine to boost my mood.

Urton left me with a final note that really stuck. She said, “What’s the point of having great skin if you’re too overwhelmed to enjoy it?” Exactly. I highly recommend seeking a meditative facialist like Urton to help you reset your nervous system and achieve your best skin yet.
