The world of beauty is like a playground for your creativity. Every liquid lipstick, eyeshadow palette, and nail polish shade offers the potential for self-expression. But what if even the bag that holds your makeup could make just as big of a statement? That's where our monthly Glam Bag comes in. Each month we deliver a dose of excitement with our Glam Bag designs. For June, to celebrate Pride and the beauty of color, we wanted to take it one step further by enlisting the help of someone we know and love: IPSY’s very own superstar graphic designer, Ian Jay.

“I feel so honored that queer artists and creatives like me have the chance to create something beautiful, fun, and functional, and also have a platform to share my colorful life with others,” says Ian. “I tend to have a more minimal style in my day-to-day life, but at IPSY I am able to express my more creative side while being unapologetically colorful.” Ian delivered on all of the above. Keep reading for your exclusive behind-the-design look at June’s Glam Bag.

MEET THE EXPERT

June 2023 Glam Bag Design

This June, we’re cheering on our LGBTQ+ community in an all-out celebration of pride and joy. At IPSY, that means supporting gender-inclusive brands, spotlighting beauty looks that challenge outdated norms, and helping everyone to express themselves freely and joyfully without fear or judgment. “Pride is a time to celebrate the past, future, and present of LGBTQIA+ history and cultures,” says Ian. “I wanted to create something that gave me the feeling that I get when Pride rolls around.” For Ian, that means a design that’s colorful, electric, and just pure fun.

His sources of inspiration included fashion and art, but he also took inspiration from unexpected places, like music, pop culture, and even cartoons from the ‘90s. Ian explains: “The colors are bright and electric, and the textures are inspired by sports apparel. We have a puffy mesh material reminiscent of basketball shorts and activewear, and I added some faux leather to give it a fashion kick. I also created a 3D extruded ‘LOVE’ charm on the zipper pull. Cartoons from the ‘90s inspired me to create a cool and unique pull tab.”

Not only does Ian’s original bright, colorblocked design leave us feeling full of pride, but thanks to the breathable mesh material, we’ll also be using this Glam Bag to stash our necessities for the beach, festivals, and outdoor adventures to feel that pride 365 days a year. In a time where personal expression has never been more important, Ian’s eye-catching June Glam Bag offers a fun and accessible way to incorporate creativity into your everyday life.
