Dr. Mark recommends looking at the ingredients to be sure. “As long as [products are] properly applied and reapplied [they are sufficient],” he says. However, you might not be too keen on reapplying skin tint when your full face of makeup is already on. That’s why it can be helpful to layer a non-greasy sunscreen on first under your makeup and then apply your SPF-packed skin tint for extra coverage. “Additionally, if the tint has zinc oxide or titanium dioxide in it, it will block the full spectrum. However, if it does not contain those ingredients, then it does not block the full spectrum, and if not uniformly applied, it would be an issue. Also, studies have shown when an SPF 15 is applied, it is often only a four.”
