The History Behind Make It BLACK

In the wake of 2020’s racial reckoning, Sharon Chuter (founder and CEO of UOMA BEAUTY) launched #PullUporShutUp—a hashtag-sparked social movement challenging companies to provide transparency on the number of Black employees and positions they held. Since then, Chuter has launched the direct action movement Pull Up For Change to help hold companies accountable in the long term and the Pull Up For Change Small Business Impact Fund, which provides startup grants to Black businesses in an effort to create more capital opportunities for Black founders.

Now, her sights are set on redefining how Black is viewed in the world. The Make It BLACK campaign has recruited a lineup of beauty brands to redesign their packaging using the color black—reminding consumers that it is chic, timeless, luxurious, and most importantly, beautiful.

How IPSY Is Participating

In honor of Black History Month and in continuation of our commitment to uplifting Black businesses, IPSY has partnered with the Make It BLACK initiative to create two amazing bundles and donate 100% of the net proceeds to the Pull Up For Change Small Business Impact Fund.

Curated with your favorite brands, these bundles will be available to shop February 2nd until they’re sold out. So act fast to secure yours before they’re gone. Here’s what’s on deck:
