The 2026 Winter Olympics are in full swing in Milan, Italy, and there has already been a fair share of drama that has emerged from the competition floor. Perhaps most notably, there was veteran skier Lindsey Vonn crashing on the slopes after going downhill on a torn ACL. Then there was the fact that all of the winners who scored gold are revealing that the medals they’ve worked their whole lives to earn are… falling apart due to shoddy craftsmanship. And who could forget Norwegian biathlete Sturla Holm Laegreid publicly confessing on live television that he cheated on his partner while talking about taking home the Bronze?
When it comes to drama, sure the above headlines will get some clicks, but in this world, a dramatic makeup look is about as much as we can handle. Why? Because being obsessed with beauty is a passion that doesn’t hurt anyone. While everyone’s reading up about ins and outs of the games, we’re focused on one area in particular: the beauty looks that figure skaters chose to rock for their performances on the ice. If you need a little inspiration to take your winter makeup looks to the next level, here are our favorite stand-out trends from the figure skaters.
It's about glam time you treated yourself.

The '90s were all about deep shades of maroon, brown, and even blues, and this look by British skater Lilah Fear is giving spice girls in the best way. We love the NYX Ultimate Color Shadow Palette in Vintage Jean Baby to achieve this look with a multitude of color options. Start with one of the lighter blue shades all over the lid, and dip into the darkest blue to add dimension across the lid where it creases. Remember, in the ‘90s a matte look was key, so put away all of your luminous foundations and either pat it down with powder or choose a matte option like the FENTY BEAUTY Pro Filt'r Mini Soft Matte Longwear Foundation.

Need instant drama without the annoying repercussions? A smoky eye is your best bet. What allows this look to be even more intense is the silver shadow that’s pressed into the inner corners, allowing the darkness of the black eye shadow to take center stage. For a vibrant silver shade, we love the L’ORÉAL PARIS Le Shadow Stick in Ice Sparkle. Smudge it into the corners of your eye and tap towards the middle with your fingers. Then grab any black eyeshadow with a medium-dense eyeshadow brush and buff it out to your heart’s desires

A monochromatic look — matching your eyeshadow to your lipstick — is a tried and true makeup trend that keeps evolving and adapting with the times. It’s a way to make your look come together without having to overthink it. On the ice, skater Madison Chock pulled off this beauty look effortlessly and even took it one step further and matched the makeup to her outfit. We give this look a 10/10—or, erm, however you score figure skating.

Zara Larsson taught us that you can make a statement with a bit of colored eyeliner, and Canadian figure skater Piper Gilles said, “say less.” Gilles was giving Canada red with this bold eyeliner look that took the bottom eyeliner far past the outer corner of the eye to create a reverse cat-eye effect. Pick up the HAUS LABS Optic Intensity Eco Eyeliner for color that stays in place all day, even on the ice.

This look is ice princess meets Wuthering Heights, aka the perfect look to wow both Olympic judges and your date at your next cocktail hour. Go for the perfect berry shade to let anyone who comes your way know you mean business—but in a sexy, cool way, obviously. We love the IPSY, LAURA GELLER, LOVE+CRAFT+BEAUTY Berry Kiss Bundle to easily create this look at home, complete with the perfect lipliner to define the lips for an even stronger look.

Adding a vinyl finish to eyelids will not only make your eyeshadow pop, but gives any look an instant cool-girl factor. When you rock this makeup, make sure to take lots of pictures because it’s going to give celebrity on a magazine cover shoot even if you’re just at home in your apartment. Don’t be intimidated to try something that might feel a little funky the moment you put it on, you will get used to it in a flash and forget it’s even there. Grab the ABOUT-FACE Vinyl Effect Eye Gloss in ganache to recreate Kaori Sakamoto’s look. It’s infused with squalane so it hydrates lids while staying in place all day, and reviewers love that it doesn’t feel sticky.

Shake up your makeup routine with this fishtail eyeliner on your next night out. There are so many different ways to play with this look: you can have the fishtail connecting at the end of a single line, like skater Lara Naki Gutmann, or try our Ipster version by leaving a bit of space between the two “tails.” Draw your winged eyeliner on your top lid the way you normally would, and then start a separate second line from the bottom lash line that never quite meets the first line. Either way you rock it, make sure to get a waterproof liquid eyeliner, like the IL MAKIAGE Black Card - Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner. Nothing ruins a look faster than a smudged line.
