August’s IPSY Bags Are Designed for Your Softest Season Yet

Inspired by Summer's Most Timeless Accessory

The inspiration began with something you probably already have in your closet: the classic bandana. "We always see bandanas as a summer accessory: headscarves, neckties, waist ties," says Wong. "We wanted to turn that feeling into makeup bags."

Instead of recreating a traditional bandana, Wong reimagined it through a softer, more elevated lens. Delicate paisley teardrops, floral-inspired linework, and a classic framed border give both bags a familiar feel, while a fresh palette of blush pink, buttercream, and rich plum keeps everything feeling unmistakably modern. The result? Nostalgic—but never dated.

Two Bags, One Soft Reset

Although both bags share the same design language, each tells its own story.

The IPSY Original Glam Bag pairs the bandana-inspired print with lightweight cotton canvas, giving it just enough structure while still feeling relaxed and effortless. A custom paisley zipper pull adds the finishing touch, lifted  straight from the artwork itself. "It adds a playful delight when opening the bag," adds Wong.

Meanwhile, the IPSY Extra drawstring bag leans even further into softness. Made from a smooth polyester fabric, it has an easy drape that mimics an actual bandana scarf, allowing the larger artwork to take center stage.

The larger canvas also gave Wong's team room to showcase more of the intricate paisley details, while the Glam Bag's smaller silhouette creates a beautifully cropped version of the same design.

The Details Worth Looking At Twice 

Sometimes the best design details aren't the loudest ones. Look closely and you'll notice tiny surprises woven throughout the print, including hidden IPSY logos tucked into the border and miniature lip icons scattered among the paisley motifs. "It gives the pattern a completely custom designer feel," says Wong.

Those thoughtful details took more work than you'd expect. Bandana artwork relies heavily on symmetry, which made translating a perfectly square print onto two differently shaped bags surprisingly complex. Wong went through multiple rounds of sampling to ensure every border lined up cleanly at the seams without feeling warped or interrupted.

Designed to Help You Slow Down

When Wong's team built the original moodboard, they found inspiration in more than just fashion. "We were unexpectedly inspired by rich, buttery textures, like whipped honey and peeled bananas," she says. "Those images made us realize the colors needed to feel delicious and comforting." That idea became the foundation for both bags.
