What Are Coconut Jelly Nails?
Coconut jelly nails are a sheer, milky-white manicure with a high-shine, almost wet-looking finish. Like other jelly nails, the color remains translucent enough for your natural nail to peek through, but instead of the bright pinks, reds, and oranges often associated with jelly manicures, coconut jelly nails stick to a soft white or nude shade.
So how are coconut jelly nails different from milky nails? It mostly comes down to opacity. Milky manicures typically have a creamier, more opaque finish, while coconut jelly nails are intentionally sheer and glossy. Think of them as the sweet spot between soap nails and milky nails—with an extra-juicy finish.
How to Get Coconut Jelly Nails at Home
Achieving this look at home is easier than you think, especially because Bachik shared the exact nail polish shade he used on Hathaway to get the mani.
Step 1: Prep Your Nails
Start by trimming and filing your nails into your desired shape. Gently buff the nail plate, then apply a sheer base coat to create a smooth canvas and help your manicure last longer.
Step 2: Apply Your Jelly Polish
Once your base coat is dry, it’s time for the star of the show. Bachik used ESSIE Nail Art Studio Jelly Gloss Polish in Arctic Jelly to create Hathaway’s coconut jelly mani. If you want to recreate her exact look, that’s the shade to grab, but any sheer white jelly polish can give you a similar effect. Apply one thin coat for a barely-there finish or build another layer for a milkier look.
Step 3: Add a Glossy Top Coat
Finish with a glossy top coat to seal in your color and amp up the glassy, jelly-like shine. Then massage a little cuticle oil around your nails and follow with hand cream for an extra-polished finish.

Best of all, there’s plenty of room to make the look your own. Keep it classic with a translucent milky white, add a pearly sheen, or layer in a little magnetic shimmer. Consider coconut jelly nails your nude mani—with a glossy upgrade.
