Every few months, we debate whether we should keep our hair long or cut it short. Honestly, who doesn’t? With the bob haircut being a huge trend this year, going shorter seems like the way to go. But length is also big, with bombshell blowouts all over our FYP. So what’s one to do? Try the 2-in-1 Anastasia haircut, duh.
Also known as the Korean bob, this 2-in-1 style gives you a bob underneath and length on top so you get the best of both worlds. IPSY spoke to expert hairstylists to get the 411 on the Anastasia cut, including what it is, how to get it, and who it’s best for. We even shared some inspo pics for those who are ready to give the viral trend a try.
It's about glam time you treated yourself.

Adilene Pineda is a Stockton-based hairstylist and licensed cosmetologist.
Gabriel Le Vasseur is a Southern California-based hairstylist.
“The Korean bob, also known as the Anastasia cut, is a versatile haircut that offers two distinct looks in one haircut,” says Southern California hairstylist Gabriel Le Vasseur. “It is designed for someone who wants to show off a hidden bob when they have their hair up, and when they have it worn down, the bob disappears, blending seamlessly into long layers.”
Stockton hairstylist Adilene Pineda notes that the defining characteristics of the cut are the “sharp-across bob on the underside and also the use of face-framing layers to blend the bob in when styling half-up.”
The key is to ask for the haircut exactly as it’s named. “Ask for a ‘2-in-1 Korean bob’ or a ‘hidden bob,’ as the name itself describes the look,” says Le Vasseur. Pineda says to use keywords like “half bob and long haircut” as well. “I would definitely recommend showing the stylist photos of the exact haircut or even a video,” she notes.
For stylists, Le Vasseur notes that layering is key. “When it comes to layering, it depends on your current length and how much layering can be done while still preserving enough density for full coverage. I recommend bringing reference photos to your appointment so your stylist can clearly understand the result you want to achieve.”
This style isn’t for everyone, though many hair types can wear it. Pineda does stress that “it wouldn’t complement someone with thin hair because it wouldn’t cover the bob completely or the bob wouldn’t look as full.”
“This haircut is best suited for those who have significant density and moderate length,” Le Vasseur echoes. “Dense hair worn down conceals the bob, achieving the intended hidden effect. Ultimately, this style requires a specific hair type to work as designed.”
If you’re thinking of trying this haircut, here are a handful of inspo pics to help you decide which take is right for you.
Go a little longer with your bob and opt for a lob. You still get length underneath and plenty on top, too.
Even though the cut is a 2-in-1, you can still have some layers in there. Case in point, this bright red Anastasia haircut with layers throughout.
Take the style up a notch by dyeing the bob a different color from the rest of your hair. This adds a fun pop of color and some dimension as well.
Style your underneath bob with flipped ends to zhuzh up the look a bit before you cover it with the longer layers.
Wavy hair types can rock this look as well, while still maintaining their natural texture.
Turn your silk press into a layered masterpiece with the 2-in-1 Anastasia haircut this season. The styling versatility makes it so much fun.
The 2-in-1 bob usually has face-framing layers that are softer, but this cut goes bold with the bangs. Don’t shy away from doing the same.
Embrace your individuality and try the Anastasia cut. “This haircut is all about versatility and surprise, so if you’re looking for something that can change with your mood or style, it’s a great option to explore,” emphasizes Le Vasseur. If you want to try something different that not everyone is wearing, the 2-in-1 style is calling your name.
