The bob is one of the most classic hairstyles, like, ever—but you’re not alone if you’ve noticed an influx of celebrities trading out their longer locks for the shorter cut. Emma Stone, Tyla, Margot Robbie, Teyana Taylor and Penelope Cruz have all recently embraced the chin-grazing look, while stars including Jessica Chastain, Selena Gomez, Gracie Abrams, and Mariska Hargitay opted for a bob for the biggest event of the summer (Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s wedding, that is). If there’s one haircut that’s making the cut this season, it’s the bob.
Styling the shorter look is just as effortless as it looks too: “Bobs need less product and drying time, making them a very versatile style for a natural, casual look,” says Louise O'Connor, hairstylist and founder of Louise O'Connor Salon in New York. “They're perfect for post-beach and pool—just slick back with a quarter-size amount of conditioner as your styling product for an effortless finish—or for less work, an easy blowout will get you straight and polished for a night out.”
The possibilities are endless, which is why ahead, we’re sharing the biggest bob hairstyle trends of the summer. Keep reading to see the most sought-after bob looks of the season, with expert tips on how to recreate them.

The Top Bob Trends of the Summer
The Micro Bob
The micro bob is one of this year’s biggest hair trends and doubles as a bold and confident statement, says O’Connor. With a little styling, you can tailor the razor-sharp look to your liking. First, O’Connor adds a lightweight styling product to damp hair, then dries the hair from side to side to accentuate its natural texture. With a blow dryer and round brush, she lightly rolls the ends under with low heat to polish the look. You can end there, or use hot tools to curl, wave, or bend hair. O’Connor personally likes to finish with a texturizing spray for hold and more movement—we recommend the DRYBAR Triple Sec 3-in-1 Finishing Spray.
The Textured Shaggy Bob
Retro '70s-style hairdos have been all over our feeds lately, so it makes sense the nostalgic trend would translate to bob form too. When at the salon, O’Connor recommends asking for face-framing layers and texture, which she says will create “a sexy, mysterious style with lived-in movement, texture, and waves.”
The Angled A-Line Bob
Ever heard the phrase “party in the front, business in the back?” That pretty much sums up the angled A-line bob, which O’Connor calls a distinct style that’s great for adding shape. The length in the front of the style frames the face and features for a look that naturally leaves an impression. For a super smooth and shiny look, O’Connor recommends blow-drying the hair very straight and flat, then running a straightening iron through the hair and finishing off with a polishing crème.
The Braided Bob
To say we’re obsessed with Tyla’s braided bob is an understatement. Not only does it look super cute, but the protective style is totally pool-proof, making it great for summer. We love how Tyla’s braids transition to loose, slightly textured hair at the ends—you can use a flat iron to curl the ends upwards. We recommend tying up your hair in a scarf or a bonnet at night to minimize friction and preserve the style, and using a lightweight oil or leave-in conditioner to keep your scalp and braids hydrated throughout the summer heat.
The Vintage Coiffed Bob
Old Hollywood hairstyles aren’t even old anymore: We’ve recently spotted them at award shows, on our social media feeds, and as one of this year’s biggest bridal hair trends. There’s something about those sleek and romantic looks that always keeps us coming back for more—and we’re not the only ones. Selena Gomez, Raye, and Havana Rose Liu have all opted for the coiffed style lately, which you can recreate with a round brush and a blow-dryer or heated rollers. The key to the polished look is finishing it off with a smoothing cream, like the SEXY HAIR Big SexyHair Creme 2 Powder Play.
The Diffused Curly Bob
One of O’Connor’s top bob trends? The diffused curly bob. “I dry curls with a diffuser after adding curling cream, using slow, low heat and letting the curls do their thing—the less I touch them until they're dry, the better,” she says. “Once dry, I use the nozzle to manipulate and stretch the roots in the opposite direction to add volume.” Pair this style with an angelic glam look and you’ll be glowing all day long.
The Slicked-Back Bob
Halle Berry’s slicked-back bob is trending, maybe because it delivers all of the drama with none of the fuss. To get it yourself, we recommend starting with wet hair for easy slicking. “I part it in the middle or with a deep side part, using a gel or mousse for hold,” O’Connor says about recreating the look. “There's something so glamorous about the way the length of the bob creates that stub ponytail at the nape.” We couldn’t agree more.
The Bixie
If there’s one cut that’s taken over this year, it’s the bixie—otherwise known as the look between a bob and a pixie. Since the cut speaks for itself, all you’ll need is a deep side part and a smoothing styling product for a hairstyle as beautiful (and wedding-ready) as Gracie Abrams. Try adding a dollop of the MUDMASKY® Blow Out Hair Balm to damp hair before blow-drying, then topping off your style with the DRYBAR Sparkling Soda Shine Mist for a glossy finish.
