5 New York Fashion Week Hairstyles We’re Already Planning to Recreate

1. The Power Slick at Public School

At the Public School fashion show, celebrity hairstylist Lacy Redway wanted the hair to reflect the brand’s New York mindset. “[This look is] aspirational yet re-creatable—built to hold up in motion, in the wind, and in real city life.” Redway started out by prepping the hair with the TRESEMMÉ A-List Collection All-In-One Hair Style Primer to lock in moisture and provide frizz control and heat protection before straightening the hair. 

To slick natural and textured hair back, she used the TRESEMMÉ A-List Collection Instant Fix Styling Stick to smooth flyaways, but for models with other hair types, she used the TRESEMMÉ Extra Hold Mousse instead, raking the product straight back. Redway then applied the TRESEMMÉ Freeze Hold Gel to the sides and back half of the head, including the crown, to keep the sides of the hair smooth and tight.

The gel holds everything in place, but to secure the runway-ready look, Redway used no-crease clips to set the shape, then dried the look with a blow-dryer. After warming a bit of the TRESEMMÉ A-List Collection Bonding Oil between her palms, she rounded out the look by applying the oil to the ends of the hair. A quick mist of hairspray locked in the look, and made sure hair shone as brightly as the clothes on the runway.

2. Halo Braids at Cult Gaia

The Cult Gaia show was ethereal, showcasing leaf-like green pleating and metallic shoes with floral details. “The Cult Gaia person doesn’t try too hard—[they’re] naturally very cool, confident, and sexy,” says celebrity hairstylist Evanie Frausto. That’s why he matched that effortless vibe with flowy halo braids that look straight out of a fairytale. 

To get the look, Frausto prepped hair with the TRESEMMÉ Protecting Heat Styling Spray before curling the hair with an iron to create gentle waves. Next, he sectioned out two little braids at the back of the hair, using the TRESEMMÉ Freeze Hold Gel to keep the braids smooth and frizz-free.

Then came the key part of the look: Frausto shaped the braids by pulling forward and crisscrossing them at the front, bringing them back around to form a halo shape. A few bobby pins made sure the braids stayed in place. Frausto then created a loose, third braid to grab those front pieces and pull them back.

3. The Androgynous Bob at Christian Cowan

Fashion Week isn’t just about the new looks, sometimes it’s about the old ones, too. For the Christian Cowan show, celebrity hairstylist Justine Marjan took inspiration from decades past. “This look is inspired by men's hair in the 1940s, with a nod to the flapper era blending masculine and feminine,” she says. She started by creating a deep side part over the left eye. “In my opinion, a side part can never be too deep,” she adds. 

To make sure the look was super sleek, Marjan used a flat iron to smooth hair straight, adding a slight kick out on the ends. Then, using a toothbrush (yes, you read that right), she applied the TRESEMMÉ Extra Hold Gel, starting in the back and directing the hair flat and back. On the sides, she took vertical sections and used more of the gel to direct the hair straight back and then behind the ears. Afterward, she went over the hair with a fine-tooth comb to make sure the hair was very flat with no volume on the sides.

At the roots, she sprayed some of the TRESEMMÉ Extra Hold Hairspray. Then came more gel—like, a lot of gel—and a follow-through with a fine-tooth comb to blend the top portion of hair with the side. Pro tip: Marjan used her hands to smooth the hair too, shaping the hair back and behind the ears. More hairspray, and the TRESEMMÉ A-List Collection Lacquer Shine Spray, gave the look a super, super, super sleek finish.

4. The Surrealist Swoop at Christian Siriano

Ever heard of the Olsen tuck? The ‘do took over at Christian Siriano, but this time with no turtleneck needed. “For Christian’s show, we embraced the idea of surrealism by transforming the hair into a sculptural accessory,” says Redway. Working on big-name models including Coco Rocha and Daphne Velghe, Redway prepped the hair with a primer, then applied the TRESEMMÉ Extra Hold Mousse to embrace the hair’s natural texture. Once that dried down, she sectioned hair down the middle and brought the hair forward, crisscrossing at the front to create a “hair scarf” of sorts, then wrapping the hair toward the back and securing it with an elastic. For those with a lot of hair, Redway braided some of the hair onto the back of the scalp prior to wrapping the “scarf” to keep it from looking too bulky.

With the hair wrap in place, Redway then tucked the ends of the ponytail underneath the “scarf” to conceal them, and used bobby pins to discreetly secure any loose pieces. A quick spray of the TRESEMMÉ A-List Collection Dry Texturizing Spray gave the hair an airy look, while a follow-up with the TRESEMMÉ Freeze Hold Hairspray tamed flyaways. For an extra boost of runway magic, Redway closed out the look with a misting of the TRESEMMÉ A-List Collection Lacquer Shine. 5. The Glossy Side Part at Christian Cowan

While some models rocked the androgynous bob at Christian Cowan, others models at the show embraced that sleek energy with a glossy side part, similarly inspired by vintage beauty looks. “This [style] is inspired by the glamorous women of the 1950s, with deep side parts, smooth blowouts, and a shiny, high gloss finish,” says Marjan, who created the looks on models, including Heated Rivalry actress Ksenia Daniela Kharlamova. 

To get the look, Marjan first applied a small amount of the TRESEMMÉ A-List Collection Smoothing Cream to damp hair, then created a deep side part over the left eye and blow-dried the hair with a round brush. Her tip? Making sure to bevel the ends under (toward the body). A smaller, 1.5 inch iron helped simplify the process.

Unlike the androgynous bob, Marjan used a teeny-tiny amount of the TRESEMMÉ Extra Hold Gel on a toothbrush to gently brush hair around the parting, directing one side off the face and the other side to just

cover one eye. Then, she warmed up a little of the TRESEMMÉ A-List Collection Smoothing Cream between her palms to smooth mid-lengths and ends, following up with the TRESEMMÉ A-List Collection Lacquer Shine Spray and a very light mist of the TRESEMMÉ A-List Collection Workable Hairspray for hold. The sultry, mysterious style fit right in with Cowan’s dramatic designs, plus it makes a great look for date night or drinks with friends.
