Celebrity brands are everywhere these days, no matter the product. But when it comes to makeup, most beauty enthusiasts will point you in a different direction, citing brands like CHARLOTTE TILBURY, PATRICK TA BEAUTY, and KEVYN AUCOIN. According to the 2025 IPSY Beauty Discovery Report—which uses data from our community of over 20 million beauty lovers—consumers are craving credibility, making makeup artist–founded brands more popular than those created by celebrities.
Natalie Dresher, a celebrity makeup artist based in New York City, is on the same page. While she works on some of our favorite faces—including Jordyn Woods, Ken Eurich, and Campbell “Pookie” Puckett—Dresher “absolutely” trusts makeup artist–founded beauty brands more than celebrity-founded ones, she tells IPSY. “Makeup artists usually take pride in their work, and vigorously test their products,” she explains. “I think celebrities can sometimes slap their name on a product without the same testing and standards that a makeup artist would have.”
As for her favorite makeup brands, she points to MAKEUP BY MARIO, DANESSA MYRICKS BEAUTY, and PAT McGRATH LABS. “These brands are more trustworthy because they perform like professional products, but are easily accessible at places like Sephora,” Dresher says. The makeup artists that founded these brands have years of experience using eyeshadow palettes, various contour methods, and countless concealers—giving their brands an artistry-first approach and innovative formulas. But which lines are worth the hype? Below, we break down the best makeup artist–founded brands.

It's about glam time you treated yourself.
Natalie Dresher is a celebrity makeup artist based in New York City.
You’re probably familiar with this brand’s iconic brow pomade, but its legacy goes way back. Makeup artist Anastasia Soare founded her namesake brand in 1997, after her breakthrough Golden Ratio eyebrow shaping method caught traction. Since then, her brow method has been seen on notable figures like Kylie Jenner and Victoria Beckham, while her professional products—like the Brow Wiz pencil and Brow Freeze Gel—have made ANASTASIA BEVERLY HILLS a huge success. In fact, the brand was recognized in this year’s Ipsies Beauty Awards as one of the top makeup artist–founded brands at IPSY.
When it comes to makeup industry legends, Pat McGrath is one of the most iconic. After years of creating some of the most iconic runway and editorial makeup looks, she founded her namesake brand in 2014, offering high-performance products with opulent packaging. Since then, McGrath has continued to leave her mark on the beauty industry, creating the famous “glass skin” look and glamming up celebrities like Bella Hadid, Miley Cyrus, and Chappell Roan. You really can’t go wrong with any of her products, though PAT McGRATH LABS is best known for its richly pigmented eyeshadows, velvety lipstick, and radiant foundations.
Patrick Ta discovered makeup when he was 21 years old, soon taking his talents to social media. After gaining a following, he began booking glam appointments with names including Gigi Hadid, Halle Berry, and Emily Ratajkowski. His brand, PATRICK TA BEAUTY, came to life in 2019 with the mission to create makeup that made women feel confident and beautiful in their own skin—a sentiment that’s reflected through Ta’s products. His Major Volume Mascara and Major Glow Lip Shine are Ipster faves.
After transitioning to a publishing job in the beauty industry, Danessa Myricks discovered her passion for makeup, inspiring her to educate herself about different techniques and formulations. With this knowledge, she created her brand, centering her products on inclusivity and innovation. Many of her products, including the Dewy Cheek and Lip Palette, are multi-use, making them the ultimate versatile addition to any makeup collection. It’s no wonder that DANESSA MYRICKS BEAUTY is among the top makeup artist–founded brands at IPSY.
Most makeup artist–founded brands aren’t usually repped by celebrities, but MAKEUP BY MARIO got its start with one of the most famous faces of all. Mario Dedivanovic built a loyal following over the years thanks to his role as Kim Kardashian’s personal makeup artist. He launched his own line in 2020, which became an instant hit thanks to its eyeshadow palettes (and then some). “The fact that Mario does Kim Kardashian’s makeup is a big selling point, especially for younger consumers,” says Dresher. After all, who wouldn’t want to recreate her flawless glam?
ONE/SIZE alludes to its mission with its title. Beauty influencer Patrick Starrr created the brand in 2020 with the goal of offering products to all kinds of beauty lovers—one size fits all. (Starrr even earned an esthetician license to ensure all products would work for sensitive skin.) Since then, ONE/SIZE has ranked as one of the top makeup artist–founded brands at IPSY, and the label’s Ultimate Blurring Setting Powder, Setting Spray, and Turn Up the Bass Versatile Pressed Foundation have become so popular, they’re rarely in stock. We’ll let the products speak for themselves.
In the makeup artist world, experience is everything. Gucci Westman has over 20 years of it—including time spent as an artistic director for both LANCÔME and REVLON. Best known for her signature “second skin” approach to makeup, Westman founded her brand WESTMAN ATELIER with clean beauty and nourishing skincare ingredients in mind. Not only are her contour, highlight, and blush sticks easy to use, but they feel as good on skin as they look.
You may have already heard of Bobbi Brown, who created her namesake brand, BOBBI BROWN COSMETICS, in 1991. She coined the “no-makeup makeup look” in the early ’90s—long before the “clean girl” makeup era—and sought to create a brand as minimalistic as her signature look. JONES ROAD was founded in 2020 with the intent of creating “strategic, high-grade formulations that work on every skin type and tone, and that are as simple to use as they are to master,” Brown writes on the brand’s website. Effective yet easy-to-use, her line is limited to essentials like the Miracle Balm, Shimmer Face Oil, and The Mascara.
Founded by teen makeup artist and influencer Zach Dishinger in 2017, FORMULA Z is driven by the belief that beauty should be inclusive, empowering, and transformative for everyone. The brand’s products are 100% cruelty-free and feature formulas that are gentle and safe for all skin types. Beloved by IPSY members, FORMULA Z offers multi-use products—like this Glamgasm Pro Artistry Face & Eye Palette—that are perfect for creating versatile looks.
If you’re on TikTok, you’ve probably heard of Charlotte Tilbury, whose products have gone viral one after another (for good reason). As the chairman, president, chief creative officer, and founder of her brand, Charlotte believes that if you “give everyone the right makeup, they can conquer the world.” That said, her “right makeup” is hardly ever in stock. Her Hollywood Contour Wand and Glowgasm Beauty Light Wand both feature the brand’s signature cushion applicator, making the cream formulas easy to use, while her Pillowtalk lip liners have gathered a cult following for their precise and plumping look.
Ruby Hammer has had quite the career, with over 25 years of experience in editorial and runway makeup and an MBE from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II for services to the cosmetics industry. After first launching a cosmetics line in the ’90s with friend and partner Millie Kendall, Hammer created her own brand with a focus on quality cosmetics and tools. Her interchangeable magnetic brushes have made good glam accessible to all, while her lip serum balms combine skincare with a range of shades.
After a long-running career as a celebrity makeup artist, Lisa Eldridge began her YouTube channel in 2010, where she offered educational beauty tutorials that racked up millions of subscribers. In 2018, she founded her own brand with an emphasis on elegance and timelessness, creating quality makeup products that enhance natural beauty. Best known for its lipsticks, the LISA ELDRIDGE brand now stocks a range of products from foundation to highlighters.
